eBay Extremely Scarce Pair of 1942 Red Wing Art Pottery Tan Englobe Cornucopia Vases #1142 – Charles MurphyAn Extremely Scarce Pair of Red Wing Art Pottery TAN ENGLOBE Cornucopia Vases with Glossy Turquoise Embellishments #1142 by Charles Murphy, circa 1942. Murphy had been recently hired as Design Director for the Art Pottery Department, and saw an opportunity for more art pottery sales with an expensive line for Jewelry Stores and Exclusive Retailers. Thus, he created the Gray & Tan Englobe Series w/the glossy turquoise embellishments. The Englobe Series was short-lived, however, largely because of the heavy manpower required by the U.S. Armed Forces for WWII following the bombing of Pearl Harbor.The gorgeous high-relief unglazed Tan Englobe Cornucopia Vases are adorned with splashing sea waves around their bases in a Turquoise Glaze. The interior & underside of the Cornucopia Vases have a lovely Burgundy Glaze. Partial Red Wing Art Pottery Paper Labels are on the inside of both vases. Both are marked ‘1142, Red Wing, USA’ underneath. The Rare Englobe Vases measure approximately 11” tall by 7” long by 5” across the opening. The rectangular base measures 4” by 5”, and each weighs just under 3 lbs apiece. Both Englobe Cornucopia Vases are in Superb Condition with NO chips, cracks, or repairs! I can find NO auction records over the past 15 years in all my subscribed services where the Englobe #1142 has come up for sale. So my 'Buy It Now' price is extremely reasonable, as I believe this pair could easily be worth 3 or 4 times my asking price! But, if you must, feel free to ‘Make An Offer’! Pottery crock measures 7 1/4 inches tall, 5 inches in diameter on the top, and 4 3/4 inches in diameter on the bottom. It has a cobalt blue sunflower decoration on the front. It is stamped on the back RED WING POTTERY, 1997, S.K. On the inside bottom the glaze is a glob of extra glaze from when it was made. Otherwise it is in good condition.
